Description
Dr. Paula Healani Palmer of the University of Southern California discusses what has been learned about health risk behavior in one of the most quickly and dramatically shifting cultures today—the People’s Republic of China. Palmer discusses prevalence of smoking and changing diet among Chinese families and youth in major cities, and the resulting epidemiology of chronic disease. Palmer also discusses sexual behavior and prevalence of sexually transmitted disease in China’s growing population. Dr. Palmer's work focuses on the impact of cultural influences on health beliefs and practices. Other research interests include developing community and school-based approaches to smoking prevention and studying maternal and child health issues in ethnic minority groups.
