Close-up view of a "Wilshire Lantern" street light located on Wilshire Boulevard. According to information provided by the Bureau of Street Lighting, the agency which oversees street lighting for the City of Los Angeles, Wilshire Boulevard was decorated with this special pole and lantern for six miles. The original lanterns, made of bronze, stand 7 1/2 feet tall from the lantern base to the top of the finial. As of 2008, approximately 100 of the original poles still remain, covering a distance of about a mile and a half down the boulevard.
