Description
This grainy, circa 1900, postcard shows a portion of the Sacramento River and a number of boats and house boats. House boats had long been a feature on the river, but in 1899 public health concerns were raised about the mooring of the boats above the suction pipe for the city's water works. They were eventually removed.
