Description
This film begins with footage of some of the waterways in the high country of Madera County. The film then transitions to various unknown families and events, including a football game in San Francisco as well as footage of downtown Raymond, Madera County, California . Raymond is an unincorporated locality within Madera County, but has a very rich history. Beginning in 1887, Raymond was the terminus for the Southern Pacific Railroad as well as being the main tourist hub for Yosemite National Park. During this time, it also served as the main freight and commerce center for the San Joaquin Valley and surrounding foothills. Ranchers, Loggers, farmers and merchants all received and shipped their goods through Raymond by rail and wagon. The Raymond/Knowles Granite Quarries also used the rail to transport their famous Sierra White granite to San Francisco and all over the United States. After the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, Raymond granite was used to rebuild many of the buildings in San Francisco. Filming then ends with scenes from a local Peach Packing and Drying Shed located in Madera County.
