Photograph caption dated March 13, 1956 reads, "Considered one of the greatest distaff track stars in the world, Stella Walsh of North Hollywood is still winning races and breaking records at 43 years of age. She is seen in action at the senior women's track and field championships Sunday at Valley Junior College. At left, Miss Walsh is chatting with Olympic Games hope Irene Robertson; then setting a new SPAAAU record in the standing broad jump and taking a low hurdle, a race in which Miss Robertson won. Asked if she had any suggestions, Miss Walsh replied, 'Just tell the women who are 43 years old that competing in track meets isn't easy.'" Pictured are Irene Robertson and Stella Walsh. See image 00053734 for an additional photo in this series.
