Brigade and regimental orders issued by General Parsons and John Durkee from April 5 through April 18, 1777 (ff. 1-4v). Included is an order from "His Excellency General Washington" who "has signified his pleasure that all officers on the recruiting service keep all the recruits under his immediate inspection. The rest of the manuscript (ff. 7-13 v.) consists of a collection of medical recipes and formulas entitled "Formula Medicamentorum." Elihu Marvin was born in 1752 to Captain Elisha Marvin of Lyme, Conn. He taught school and practiced medicine in Norwich, Conn., and in the spring of 1777 joined the 4th Connecticut Regiment under the command of John Durkee (1728-1782). The regiment was organized in early 1777 and served until the reorganization of January 1, 1781, when most of its personnel was incorporated into the 1st Connecticut Regiment. Marvin resigned his commission in the summer of 1778 and returned to Norwich where he resumed his medical practice. In 1793 he was appointed Brigadier General of the Connecticut militia.
