Description
Bound ledger with "Potrero" embossed on cover. Prepared by Simpson & Millar, Searchers, 522 California Street. "Property of Alfred Barstow, 430 Cula Street, Room 7" written on front page. Parcels of land in San Francisco described as 1st commencing on the South Easterly corner of Arkansas and Nevada Streets thence Easterly along the Southerly line of Nevada Street 200 feet to Connecticut Street thence Southerly along the Westerly line of Connecticut Street 141 feet thence at right angles Westerly 200 feet to the Easterly line of Arkansas Street thence Northerly along the last named line 141 feet to the point of commencement... (see map attached) Grantee/Grantor index at front. Transactions appear to date from 1865 to 1889 and relate mainly to the Barstow family in San Francisco. A letter at the front of the ledger to Mrs. CAroline Bahlmann, Cor. Pennsylvania Ave. and Sarah Street, dated 20th September 1893, from the California Title Insurance & Trust Company, reads: "Your Application No. 6731 for $2,000.00 Title Insurance has been granted and a Policy for that amount will be duly issued upon the production of a satisfactory deed from Alfred Barstow and wife if he be a married man..."
