Description
Julia Alvarez discusses her book, “Once Upon a Quinceañera: Coming of Age in the USA.” Alvarez says she attended Mexican, Cuban, and Ecuadorean American quinceañeras. She talks about the costs of quinceañeras and says that the celebrations have lost their richness and spirituality of tradition. Alvarez goes on to discuss Latina teenage pregnancy, suicide, and school drop out rate, and mother and daughter relationships.
