Clipping found tucked in the back of Malibu Times Scrapbook (https://pepperdine.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/p15730coll8/id/1227). Written on the clipping: "Cabrillo Beach San Pedro."
rITE ' istsi lis BEOT1HT Thousands Coming to Take Part in Three-Da^ & I I Celebratioiy ^ty** Thousands of friendly invaders stormed San Pedro's gates today, eager to join with citizens of the harbor district in a three-day celebration of the tenth anniversary of the signing of the armistice which ended the world war. The observance here, because of its manifold colorful and spectacular phases, is unique, not only in Southern California, but in America; and, for that reason, the largest crowd ever to be entertained here was expected. A conservative estimate, based on the throng attracted to last year's one-day observance, fixed the number of visitors who will be attracted here during the three-day affair, at 150,000. Officially, the celebration was to begin at three o'clock this afternoon, when Mayor Oyer was to dedicate the harbor district branch city hall. Paul Eubank of Wilmington was to make the response, accepting the building on behalf of the port communities and the grand officers of the Native Sons of the Golden West were to perform the formal dedicatory rites. ESCORT MEETS MAYOR T h e distinguished guests, including the mayor's party and the Native Son officers were met at the port boundary by a committee of citizens headed by James Dod- son, Jr. and escorted to the new city hall building, at Seventh and Beacon streets. The structure presented a gala appearance decked in red, white and blue bunting. Its walls were decorated with huge signal flags, which were hoisted this morning by a working party from the U. B. S. Procyon. Many well?known civil, army and naval leaders were on the speakers' platform when Mayor Cryer and his party arrived. Following the dedication, the building was to be thrown open to the public, for inspection. Boy Scouts were stationed in the various corridors to guide the visitors through the six-story institution. The two bronze tablets laid in the main entrance of the new city hall building today during the dedication ceremonies w ere e n- scribed as follows: "This Building Dedicated Under (Continued on page two) (Continueu uv- the Auspices of the Citizens of San Pedro, November 10, 1928, "This building Dedicated to Truth—Liberty—Toleration by the Native Sons of the Golden West, November 10, 1928." DEDICATE BOATHOUSE One of the most important units in the city's recreational scheme—the Cabrillo beach municipal boathouse, will be dedicated at eight o'clock tonight. Preceding the dedication, a barbecue supper will be served to the public on the "man-made strand." During the supper, the Los Angeles Playground department band will play. Mayor George Cryer, Bo&liPJ* Director Walter Madge, President (Jeorge "'^tKnlead of the San Pedro chamber of commerce, and other leaders will take part in the dedication. Immediately following, expected to be at nine o'clock, more than 50 boats, lying, darkened, at anchor off the boathouse pier, will illuminate and pass in a marine parade, before the pier and through the protected area inside the breakwater.
