Description
Six children, four girls and two boys, are depicted playing in a meadow. The girl on the far left wears her hair half up with a white bow. Her dress is white with short sleeves, a square neck, and ends just above the knee. The front of her dress is white lace, the back of her skirt is pleated, and she wears a wide white sash around her waist. She wears white boots. The girl behind her wears a wide brimmed straw hat trimmed with red and blue flowers. Her dress is white with long sleeves and a plain collar. There are buttons down the middle of the dress and a white sash tied around her waist. Her boots are white and she holds a butterfly net in her right hand. The girl in front wears her hair half up with a white hat with blue edging and pink flowers. Her dress is blue and gray tattersall plaid. Her dress is long sleeved with blue ruffled cuffs and a blue collar with a bow. A blue vest has buttons down the front, and her white blouse has ruffles at the neck and wrists. Her skirt ends just below the knee and has blue bows down the center front of the gray plaid center section, and a wide ruffle at the hem of the back blue section. Her boots are gray. Next to her, the older girl wears a straw hat with white flowers. Her dress is pink and brown. The long sleeves are pink, as is the ruffled underskirt. The bodice and overskirt are brown, and the back is gathered and draped up at the back. Her skirt ends midcalf. Her boots are brown and she holds a small bouquet in her left hand. The boy in the back wears a straw hat with black edging. His jacket and trousers are tan. His jacket has black buttons in a diagonal down the front of his jacket. His trousers are knee length, or he wears his boots over them. His boots are light brown and end just below the knee. His shirt has a narrow white turn down collar and he has a brown tie knotted at the neck. There are rows of looped brown trim at the front and cuffs of the jacket. The little boy on the far right wears a blue jacket, vest, and kilt, white stockings, and blue boots. His shirt's white collar is turned down, and he has a bright blue tie at the neck. The boy is wearing what appears to be "leading strings," a sort of baby leash. Red bands circle both his upper arms, and two leads run back to a pole, held by his brother behind him. The arm bands and the leads are decorated with red pompoms, and a red pompom decorates the base of the pole. The little boy gazes back at his brother, who holds the pole and leads in his hands and looks back. In the front right corner, on the ground, lies a blue parasol, a brown hat, and a red blanket.
