Description
The two room addition to the Turlock Grammar School is visible in this photograph. On the front side of the school under the locust trees, a stile is visible. It is the set of steps created to go over the fence, often used rather than a gate to keep animals such as horses, cows and pigs, out of an area. It is likely that adults assumed children would forget to keep a gate closed.
