Description
Photograph of mural in Bldg. 2917, south room, west end door, no dimensions. This is a partial coat of arms for the 75th Ranger Regiment unit insignia. Emblem was found in the CERDEC (Army Research Development and Engineering Command) area. The colors blue, white, red and green represent four of the six combat teams, originally the 5307th Composite Unit nicknamed Merrill's Marauders during World War II. The sun represents collaboration with the Chinese forces, the sun symbol was on the Chinese flag, the star represents the Star of India where the Marauders campaigned, the lightning bolt symbolizes the speed and striking force while behind enemy lines. The 5307th was re designated the 75th Ranger Regiment in 1986. The building also had posted signs reading "Division Relocation Office."
