Mills is photographed mid-sentence at the witness stand with one finger in the air and papers in front of him. In 1931, Southern California real estate broker John P. Mills was accused along with Alexander Pantages, Jesse Shreve, William Jobelmann, and Olive Clark Day in contributing to the delinquency of two minor girls. The confessions and accusations involved the girls being coaxed to enter a hotel room with Mills downtown. It became known as the Hollywood love market investigation because Jobelmann and Day were accused of supplying wealthy men with young girls. Jobelmann and Day were both arrested.
