West stands at left with his hands in his pockets and with his back to the road. He is turned toward the camera, but gazes off towards the left. The dirt road stretches behind him at a slight angle, narrowing at right. A house (partial view) stands behind him at left on the opposite side of the street. A couple utility poles stand on the opposite side of the street as well. Power lines crisscross overhead. Mountains are visible in the distance. Text from negative sleeve: 719. Pasadena, Calif. December [1897 crossed out] [handwritten:] 1899 [end handwritten]. H.H.West, with unknown now man. May be Cutler, who had raised a beard.
