Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Despite the crossed out text on the negative sleeve, there are two negatives, including one of H. H. West. H. H. West stands holding a cigar by the Nishnabotna River. He wears a hat, bowtie, jacket and vest and has a hand on his hip. The river winds behind him with the former slaughterhouse visible at the left. Sam Longstreet's shadow is visible in the foreground. There are trees in the background. Text from negative sleeve: 787. East. Red Oak, Iowa, 1900. Nishnabotany [sic] river and the old slaughter house, taken from the north branch rail road [sic] track, about 500 yards south of the water works, where the river bends to the east close to the railroad track. I take Sam Longstreet in one picture ["and he takes me in the other. I have a cigar in my hand and am facing the camera" crossed out.] [Handwritten:] 1 ["2" crossed out] negatives.
