Photograph, from left to right, of Harry Schmitz, John Bidwell and Wilfrid Cline, Jr. posing by a car during a trip to Kosk Creek. The car is parked at center with the rear of the car facing towards the camera. Harry Schmitz stands to the left of the car and looks to the camera while a pipe hangs from his mouth. John Bidwell and Wilfrid Cline, Jr. stand to the right of and slightly in front of the car. Both look to the camera. The back of the car is piled with camping gear. Its license plate reads, "CAL 288 467." It is pulled off to the right side of a dirt road. The road stretches across the foreground and recedes up and to the left. It disappears behind pine trees that stand in the background as it curves slightly to the right.
Text from negative sleeve: 1040. Trinity County trip, 1917. Kosk Creek-Cayton Valley. 1. The sheep herder we had with us took my dutch oven and made a batch of real camp biscuits. I took 4 small pictures showing him making the dough, cooking in the Dutch oven over a bed of coals and when done showing them to us. Done a beautiful golden brown, and delicious with molasses. 2. Wilfrid Cline Jr getting a pail of water at the spring. It was called Poison Spring, but the water was excellent. 3. Large film. We are all packed to leave Cayton for home. Left to right Harry Schmitz, John Bidwell, Wilfrid xx Cline Jr. I have a five gal oil can hung on rear. We have been using it to wash clothes. 1 large, 5 small films
