The battleships that the people were waiting for were part of President Theodore Roosevelt's Great White Fleet, which passed through Santa Monica Bay on April 25, 1908. People stand on the beach watching for battleships. They holds umbrellas and there is a boat next to them. Wooden sidewalks stretch across the image and there is a utility pole with wires extending off of it at the center. Text from negative sleeve: Venice, Calif. about 1909. President Roosevelt sent the battleships around the world. 21 persons slept in our cottage at Island Ave and Speedway the night before they were to parade up Santa Monica Bay. 1.
