Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of Liberty Cap at Mammoth Hot Springs as viewed from the parking lot where H. H. West's Buick is parked. The parking lot stretches across the foreground in the lower third of the image. H. H. West's Buick is parked in the near distance at center. It is viewed at an angle from the rear. Another car (partial view) is parked at far right. Back from the parking lot and between the 2 cars stands Liberty Cap. A small sign is posted in front of it and a larger sign stands to the right. The larger sign reads, "DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR NATIONAL PARK SERVICE FREE GUIDE TRIPS LEAVE THIS POINT [...]." A pathway leads from the parking lot from between the 2 cars and into the distance at left. Several people walk along the pathway in the distance at left. The hot springs area continues along the left third of the image. Pine-covered hills stand across the background. Text from negative sleeve: 1591. Yellowstone trip 1942. Yellowstone Wednesday June 24, 1942. 1. A view thru a lane in the trees of the Daisy geyser. Light struck. 2. The bank below excelsior basin where the hot water comes over in a large volume. 3. An elk horn house on the lawn in fron [sic] of the museum at Mammoth, and a man taking a picture of it, with a couple in front. 4. Our Buick in front of Liberty Cap at Mammoth. Ranger waited for tourists to show up to conduct them on a tour. Only half dozen of us there. 4 films. [Note: In all instances of the year date, 1942, the last digit (2) is handwritten over a typed 3.]
