He wears a hat and holds his gloves on his knee. He holds another item that cannot be identified in his other hand. There are pillows on the sofa and there is a rocking chair at the left. Pictures hang on the wall. The library is visible through the doorway. There are light streaks or scratches at the bottom of the negative. Text from negative sleeve: 1781.
