Photograph of Mertie West and 2 other visitors to Niagara Falls standing at a guardrail and overlooking the American Falls. A pedestrian walkway stretches across the foreground. Its far edge is lined by a metal guardrail with thin mesh fencing along the bottom. On the near side of the guardrail, Mertie West stands leftmost. Her back is turned to the camera as she looks out at the top of the American Falls. To her right, a man and a woman also stand along the guardrail, looking out over the falls. A viewing scope stands to the left of Mertie. Immediately beyond the platform, the Niagara River flows into frame from the left. It crests in the distance at center, disappearing from view. Mist is visible at center, rising from the falls's basin. The Niagara River is visible flowing through the gorge in the far distance at right. The negative appears damaged; cuts and scratches are visible on the image. Text from negative sleeve: 2340.
