Photograph of H. H. West posing beside the southern face of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. A wide terrace between sets of stairs spans the width of the bottom edge and stretches back on a slight angle to the left. H. H. West stands in the near distance, left-of-center, and looks to the camera. Behind him, the marble, neoclassical Tomb of the Unknown Soldier stands. It is viewed from its southern face and stretches out-of-frame to the left. Three laurel wreaths are carved in relief on the side of the tomb. They are spaced and framed by 4 pilasters. Metal chains and posts surround the monument. A few other visitors mill about the terrace. One man stands in the near distance along the right edge with his back to the camera. A group of 3 people stand at the far end of the terrace at center. Trees line the background, cascading downward to the right.
