Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of passengers traveling aboard the S. S. Catalina's top deck while en route to Catalina Island. The top deck extends beyond the width of the image, entering frame from the bottom edge and narrowing as it stretches into the distance. In the foreground, passengers sit on benches that line the center of the deck. They are seen from an elevated angle and sit with their backs to the camera. Open deck lines both the right and left sides of the line of benches. Railings wrap around the edge of the deck. Passengers stand along the rails and face out towards the water. At center and beyond the near benches, a mast rises beyond the top frame. Behind it, a funnel rises from a cabin and is secured by rigging. More passengers cluster together at the far end of the ship in the distance. The ocean stretches across the background. Text from negative sleeve: 2389.
