Photograph caption dated June 25, 1956 reads, "Ernie Shelby of Pierce Junior College in Canoga Park, is a prime favorite to make the U.S. Olympic team this week in the broad jump. He's shown in full flight, top to bottom, starting his takeoff and making a two-point landing. Shelby won AAU meet at Bakersfield with jump of 26 feet, 1 1/4 inches."
