Description
In the wake of the October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history project to document the personal and professional experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore the State's damaged transportation system. Judy Silvestre was the Radio Room Supervisor of the Caltrans Oak Street office when the Loma Prieta earthquake occurred. In this interview Judy discussed the difficulty presented by the power outage at the Oak Street building and the efforts to reestablish phone line communications. When the phone service became available Judy served in the capacity as a dispatcher.
