Description
Soldiers stand on the deck of the USS General M. C. Meigs Navy transport ship docked at San Francisco. They had just disembarked the San Leando--the ferry seen in the background--which had carried them to port from Camp Stoneman in Pittsburg, California. The Bay Bridge is in the background. This photo is part of a series documenting Williams’ shipping out to Korea. The bulk of the journey lay ahead on the USS Meigs, which sailed from San Francisco to Yokohama, Japan between January 14th and 28th, 1952.
