Warren Bennis discusses his book, “Geeks and Geezers.” He begins by discussing the terms “geeks” and “geezers” and why he chose the title of the book. He explains that geeks are thirty and under and geezers are seventy or older. In the book he examines how each of these groups view leadership and how different they are. He then shares a story of one of his students, Tara Church, who at age eight organized a group called The Tree-Musketeers in the hopes of negating the effects of deforestation. Bennis discusses how the geeks group does not possess loyalties to institutions the way the geezers do and instead find validation amongst their colleagues. He goes on to express concern that the geeks do not have heroes and role models in the way that the geezers did. Later in the interview he discusses some prominent geezers including Muriel Siebert and Francis Hesselbein.
