Behind the monument to the let can be seen large coils of rope and a pry bar. At bottom of the photograph, above the signature on the car is printed: 1063 -- 3rd Michigan Inft. Monument. . The photograph has been affixed to a card with the photographer's signature and "Gettysburg, Pa." printed in gold lettering at the bottom. One of the numerous monuments erected on the Gettysburg battlefield to honor the soldiers who fought and died in this decisive battle. Provenance
Lindsey M. Gould, a Civil War veteran, acquired the photographs in the 1880s as a keepsake of his war experience. At Mr. Gould’s death around 1919, the entire collection went to his close friend Herbert W. Singleton. The collection remained in the Singleton family until May 2001 when the Huntington Library acquired it through a gift and purchase arrangement.
