Description
View of the Main Planilla on Mine Hill. The houses and buildings of Spanishtown can be seen on the hills behind the planilla. The Planilla was a large wooden shed with open sides in which the ore was sorted. Sorters cleaned and separated the ore by grade and size. The Mexican term for the building, planilla, was used by all. Photo mounted on red board by four corner mounts. Typewritten label below photo: "The main planilla in the 1870's." On back of photo: Handwritten in blue ink: "Main Planilla 1870's. New Almaden Quicksilver Mines, Calif. Please credit New Almaden Historical Society."
