Photograph caption dated October 14, 1953 reads, "Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Basom who is expected to testify today in preliminary hearing into charges of assault with intent to commit murder against her husband, Joseph, and Hubert Whitehead, is shown here with her brother, George Rye, left, and William Hasenstab, right, a family friend, in Soledad courtroom. Earlier, Mrs. Basom told officers her husband and Whitehead threatened her life with a knife after taking her into a lonely part of Pico Canyon."
