Description
As seen in this circa 1920 postcard, the oldest structure in Sutter’s Fort - the so called Central Building - is in the foreground behind the cannon while a vintage stagecoach and “Prairie Schooner” rest in the background. It is estimated that between 1840 and 1860 over 200,000 emigrants and 50,000 wagons made their way across the nation to California or Oregon.
