Description
The Elsie M. Castner Oral History Project was made possible by grants from the estates of Robert F. Cocklin, Ruth Castner Cocklin and others. The Dixon Public Library undertook this project in 1998 with the assistance of Chris Castaneda from CSU, Sacramento. The oral history of long-time resident Margaret Rohwer is a record of her memories about growing up in rural Dixon, CA. Her stories relate to the economic development of agriculture and ranching in early California communities. The present-day Rohwer families in the Dixon area descend from pioneers that settled in northern Solano County after the town of Dixon was established in 1868.
