Description
Using archival records, Gonzales-Day went searching for California's historic hang trees. While some of the locations of the trees in this series are certain, others were taken in approximate locations that corresponded to the historical data available. For more information, see Lynching in the West: 1850-1935 (Duke, 2006). This exhibition also included the "Erased Lynching" series, and the photographic mural "The Wonder Gaze" (St. James Park).
