Description
Photograph caption dated October 8, 1938 reads, “First film made by Colonel Selig here was ‘The Heart of a Race Tout.’ Photo shows a scene from the picture. The hero was tom Santschi, in the center prison garb. Heroine was Jean Ward, second to his left. Comforting Miss Ward are Silent Tower, character actress, and Harry Todd. Villain of the film was James McGee, leaning over table.” Additional photograph caption dated July 17, 1948 reads, “Death today had written ‘the fadeout’ for Col. William Selig, father of Hollywood’s fabulous multi-million-dollar film industry. He died at 84. The story of Selig’s career is the story of Hollywood’s early struggling days. Above is shown a scene from ‘The Heart of a Race Tout,” first film by Selig.”
