Photograph was edited for publication purposes
Photograph caption dated July 28, 1954 reads, "Valleyite William A. Rowe, San Fernando, displays crude 20-gauge shotgun made by mine mechanic in jungles of Brazil of gas pipe with hack saw and file as only tools. Its first shot killed a deer, Rowe says. He estimates cost of crude weapon at 50 cents."
