Description
This was a public program at Headlands Center for the Arts that explored the impact of conquest and colonization on native peoples and imagined what a world would be like without those events. Mary Louise Pratt discussed the Incan Writer Juaman Poma De Ayala who urged the Spanish monarchs to recognize the Incan nation and cultures as equal to the Spanish Empire and acknowledge the integrity of native cultures. Winona LaDuke examined the contemporary results of colonization such as consumer and television addiction here in California, dependency on fossil fuels, and prosperity in a decolonized society. In Imagining a new world, do we have to give up the American Dream?
