Jimmy Breslin discusses his novel, “Damon Runyon.” He begins by explaining that the book is a non-fiction account of the life of writer Damon Runyon. Breslin talks about following Runyon’s paper trails all over the country and interviewing many old friends and acquaintances of Runyon. He describes Runyon’s vain persona, and his extremely tumultuous relationship with his wife and children. Breslin discusses the differences between gangsters in the 1920s and ones who deal drugs today. He talks about Runyon’s Broadway musical, “Guys and Dolls.” He ends the interview by discussing how Frank Capra turned Runyon’s stories into films.
