Description
Steve Hanks discusses his book, “Poised Between Heartbeats,” which discusses how he evolved into an artist. Beginning with his roots in Coronado, California, it is only when Steve moved to New Mexico that he truly blossomed as an artist. Steve always put his art before his personal life, such as marriage and having a family. Steve was extremely impoverished as he was creating his art, using all of his energies to do art. His art was inspired by where he lived, including New Mexico because of the sun, and San Francisco because of the Victorian houses. He also painted women, which he later realized were reflections of his deeper emotions. His cat Gato was his sole companion while Steve painted, and in honor of Gato, Steve painted a picture of him on his 10th birthday.
