Henry was arrested and charged with grand theft for having dissipated funds and securities placed in his custody by Charlotte Shelby, mother of Mary Miles Minter and Margaret Shelby. First photograph caption dated December 22, 1932 reads, "Mrs. Charlotte Shelby, Mary Miles Minter's mother, is pictured with some of the checks in the case of Leslie B. Henry, Pasadena clubman held on suspicion of causing a loss of between $400,000 and $500,000 in her securities accounts. Mrs. Shelby today revealed an amazing letter to her in which he assertedly said he planned to kill himself by ramming his auto into a locomotive."; Second photograph caption dated March 8, 1933 reads, "The indictment charges theft of $75,000, but prosecutors declare Henry will be forced to explain operations which were said to have involved an asserted loss of about $450,000 to Mrs. Shelby, pictured above."; Third caption dated October 17, 1936 reads, "Mrs. Charlotte Shelby sued for $48,750 by daughter."
