Description
The Valley to Vietnam series, produced by Sacramento Public Library, traces the arc of experience of Vietnam era veterans living in the Sacramento, California area. Arkansas-born Jay Hatch followed his family to northern California where he would eventually graduate with a degree in engineering from Sacramento State. In April 1969 he was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in South Vietnam's I Corps region. It was there that he was an engineering officer in charge of building roads and constructing firebases along the strategic A Shau Valley. He returned to Sacramento to experience a full career with both the Bureau of Reclamation and the Army Corps of Engineers.
