Photograph caption dated February 16, 1961 reads "How not to eat pancakes. Linda Godfred, 18-year-old Valley State College freshman, in the first two panels above shows the ideal way to down a large number of pancakes quickly--but not very enjoyably. The classmate beside her makes no attempt to hide her amazement as Linda, 6114 Van Noord Ave., Van Nuys, stuffs the dollar-size flapjacks into her mouth and quickly takes some water to wash them down in the first annual Shrove Tuesday pancake-eating contest last Tuesday at the International House of Pancakes, 8931 Reseda Blvd., Northridge. Linda and her partner, Roger Curry, 19, 15313 Cabrito St., Van Nuys, in the last panel are shown with their trophy for winning the contest by downing 145 pancakes in just over an hour. They were also given 10 free meals at the restaurant as part of their prize, although at the time they seemed more interested in bicarbonate of soda than food."; See images #00127520 through #00127522 for all photos in this series.
