Description
1989-1177. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. B, leaf 42. In the lower left corner is the shadow of a utility pole; at the right foreground a group of three children lead a gentleman holding a US flag; the girls flank a boy in the group of 3 who holds a banner for the "Sutter Parlor Insituted July 7th, 1899 Sacramento"' behind the flag-bearing man are three rows of women dressed in white skirts and white suit tops and white hats with brims; the rows extend off the left edge; behind the ladies are trees and behind the trees can be seen the tops of a couple of houses at the right. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Admission Day parade by the daughters and sons of that organization. Picture was taken at 9th & M street,,,,looking west, house of the right side still stands to-day, next to the Sutter Club....." Reproduction of original image from 1905.
