The whole world will mourn with the United States the loss of Will Rogers and Wiley Post. The manner of their ,th in the prime of life will still further enshrine them in the hearts of the youth of America and every real Americam will long revere them. They died doing something. # 83 has a new owner. # 12 has an old time resident of Malibu Beach as occupant. # 195 appears to be finished after weeks of labor by artisans of all trades. They say it is the very latest thing in beach homes. Maybe the editor will get to look it over and be able to tell you all about it in a later edition of the Barnacle . The host at the Inn was seen polish - ing up some fancy looking fire arms last Thursday P.M. He disappeared at three A.M. the following morning and up to the time of going to press AUG* f i 7TH. 1935 VOL. 3 NO. 3 of the Barnacle had not returned to ex plain his absence. Maybe he was 6n one of those expeditions reccommended in the Barnacle last MALIBU SPORTS DAY Tennis and swimming "kibitzers" of Malibu Beach will have their innings on Sunday Sept. 1st., according to the plans of our life guard and swimming instructor Ernie Chagnon. He i s co-operating with members of the colony in lining up a program of events for Labor Day entertainment, of Malibu Beach residents and guests. The finals in the doubles, tennis competition will be held in the morning. The first two rounds are siatea for the day before. Buddy Schulberg, winner of the last three singles contests, is in charge of the "tournament. Gilbrt Roland, seeded player No, 1 at the colony as well as top ranking player at the Beverly Hills Tennis Club, has entered with a "dark horse" as a partner- Ray Stahl. Phil Girsh and Pan Birman are also seeded among the first half dozen racquet weilders who will d o their lobbying on the Schulberg court. In the afternoon there will be swimming events with Malibu res'i - dents sponsoring some of the greatest swimmers now in Southern California. The main event is to be a race which will be swam parallel to the shore with the contestants in view from the beac h at all times. There is hope that Johnnie Weismiller and Buster Crabbe will be persuaded to enter under the colors of the colony. One of the great channel and Lake George swimmers is also expected to take part in the program. A race strict ly for local talent is also scheduled and Mr, Chagnon is lining up entrants. Further details of the September 1st. sports day will be in next weeks Barnac le . The opportunity to help maintain the Beach and Life Guard Service is still open and neccessary .
