Photograph caption dated May 20, 1943 reads, "Says young star 'just wasn't made for marriage.'" Gardner claimed in court that Rooney was something of a mamma's boy, and that he left her alone for long periods of time. She demanded no monetary awards, but did receive title to a car, furs and jewelry.
