Description
Photograph article dated May 23, 1963 partially reads, "Only the quiet sound of rushing air bothers the solitude of a group of persons who have truly found a way "to get away from it all." They are the sailplane pilots of Southern California, and their world of solitude and silence is the unstable sky above the deserts of Antelope Valley. With only eagles and hawks as flying partners, these adventure-seeking purists of flying can stay in the air 8 hours or more, and easily reach altitudes of more than 10,000 feet." Pilot Ross Briegleb, reporter, hunt for thermal over El Mirage.; See image #00118678 for additional photo in this series.
