State senator Sheila Kuehl (center) prepares to cut the ceremonial cake at the reopening of Los Encinos State Historic Park, as an unidentified woman and a California State Parks ranger hold it up at the sides. The original rancho of the Valley, this five-acre park includes the original nine-room De La Osa Adobe (built in 1849), natural springs, and a Spanish guitar-shaped pond. The rancho was originally 4,460 acres in size, but through the years, it would slowly be taken apart, a piece at a time. In 1916, 1,170 acres of land were sold from the Rancho. This parcel was subdivided and became the city of Encino. In 1949, the last remaining parcel of land, containing the De La Osa Adobe, Garnier House and spring were purchased by the State of California, and the Los Encinos State Historic Park was created. It is located on Moorpark Street, at the corner of Balboa and Ventura boulevards. Sheila Kuehl is a former child actress who portrayed Zelda Gilroy in the television series, "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis". Photograph dated April 27, 2002.
