Description
The Rizzo family purchased the Bernardo Winery 25 miles north of downtown San Diego in 1927 (during Prohibition). They first sold “grape juice” that was guaranteed to ferment (into wine) by the end of the road. Ross Rizzo (1939-2008) took over the family business in 1962. He discusses the history of the winery and its transformation from a historic ranch to a destination attraction that today houses 12 businesses and produces 160,000 gallons of wine per year.
