Description
This circa 1905 postcard shows a steamboat race coming off in a tightly packed Sacramento River. Steamer racing had been conducted on the river, and around Sacramento, going back to the 1850s, one of the first taking place in November 1856 between the General Redington and the Gipsey, with the latter crossing the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers first to claim the victory.
