Description
Rochester Hotel, located at 310 West Chapman Avenue at the southwest corner of Lemon and Chapman, Orange, California, ca. 1920. Image shows an unidentified man and woman standing outside front of the Rochester Hotel, looking at the lawn. Rochester Hotel was begun in 1887 by builder Major E.A. Warner and designed by local architect C.B. Bradshaw. After failure of tourist industry, the hotel building was sold in 1889 to Rev. J.H. Harwood and converted into the Orange County Collegiate Institute, the county's first college, which operated from 1889-1891. It operated as a hotel until it was raized in June, 1931, on the current site of the Orange Post Office which opened in 1935. Photographic print B&w 12.6 x 17.7 cm.
