Description
Scope/Content: Manuscript. In English, with some Latin, Greek and Hebrew. Vellum manuscript waste from an older document used in binding; pp. 96-100 and 399-402 excised
Scope/Content: Manuscript volume of sermons delivered at Thornton, Buckinghamshire (as well as nearby Foscott) from approximately 1663-1690, though only a portion of sermons are dated, so this date range may not be wholly accurate. The volume was probably the work of Charles Almond, who was the rector there from 1660 until his death in 1709. A graduate of Magdalen College, Oxford, Almond reused this book and these sermons over many years as a minister. Certain sermons have notations of the dates on which they were repeated, and many sermons contain emendations and additions written by Almond at different times. Bound with a copy of The whole booke of Psalms, a book of paraphrases translated by Thomas Sternhold and printed in 1638, which contains some minor annotations and underscoring throughout in Almond's hand.
