Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. A shadowy photograph of Cleo Swain holding a pot and fixing up a meal at the group's campsite near Piru Creek. Cleo Swain stands in shadow at right. He stands hunched over a bowl or pot he holds and appears to look down towards his hands. To his left, cooking utensils, food canisters, trunks and crates sit on the sandy ground. Up a small slope, behind and to the left of Cleo, a tent is pitched. A couple of trees stand directly behind him in the shadows. Text from negative sleeve: 734. Piru Creek, Calif. Near Billy Smitt's cabin. We drove my Buick right down by the Piru. Party was H.H.West, Cleo Swain and Winnie Scott of the Western Rubber and Supply Co., and Mills Helen a friend of Swains. About 1917. 1. H.H.West with string of trout from Piru. 2.
